ACC is Hitting the Road!

It’s been a busy summer for ACC’s staff. I’ve been working on finishing up my ’72 Chevy truck restoration project between deadlines for ACC and our sister publication, Sports Car Market, and I’m happy to say that I’m finally done spinning wrenches on it for the summer.

And it’s just in time, too, as Associate Editor Chad Tyson and I are leaving town next Thursday for our very first trip to Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada.

I’ve heard about this event for years and have wanted to be a part of it for what seems like forever, but my schedule has always stopped me. This year it’s different. Chad and I made our plans to go six months ago, building it into a two-week road trip revolving around Hot August Nights in Reno and Monterey Car Week in Monterey, CA.

So Thursday morning, we’ll be cruising out of Portland on our way to Reno — a 530 mile drive. Chrysler was nice enough to provide us with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for the trip, and we’ll be reviewing it from the road. We’ll also be stopping at interesting places along the way and blogging about the whole thing right here. Watch this space to follow along with us as we check out the Barrett-Jackson auction, the car shows, the cruising, and the parking lot drag races (which I’m especially excited to see).

From there, it’s on to Monterey — another 320 miles — for this year’s annual car week, which is one of the biggest gatherings of car auctions, car shows, and car events in the world. Last year’s auctions sold $258m in cars, and I think this year’s will do even better. ACC and SCM will be everywhere on the peninsula, from the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca to the Pebble Beach Concours. You can learn more about this year’s events from SCM’s Insider’s Guide to Monterey, and check out some of our favorite shots from last year’s events below, including Tony Piff’s fantastic Cobra spinout and Trans Am shots from the races.

If you see us on-site at any of these events (we’ll be in ACC hats and shirts), feel free to stop us and say hi. We love to kick tires with our readers, especially when you have feedback for us about what you like and don’t like about the magazine.

Otherwise, follow along with us as we cover some of the coolest car events of the summer!
