Forget the Pilbara, Australia’s biggest ‘iron’ will at Shannons Sydney Autumn Auction on Monday (May 6), where two vast Cadillacs and a Shelby GT500 Replica Fastback are going under the hammer.
The two right hand drive Cadillacs – a striking 6.2 metre long, 1965 Fleetwood Series 75 Limousine with room for nine and a slightly smaller 1972 De Ville Sedan – are both being offered with no reserve.
Meanwhile from nearby Dearborn, Shannons also have a stunning original left hand drive 1968 Ford Mustang ‘Shelby GT500 Replica’ Fastback that is expected to sell in the $55,000-$65,000 range.
The Fleetwood was Cadillac’s most luxurious offering in the 1960s, with its power seats, electric windows, central locking and air conditioning and other convenience features taking many years to trickle down into bread and butter cars.
It used a massive 254kW (340hp) 429-cid V8 engine to propel its 2.5 tonne bulk and was priced from USD$9660 new.
The rare (believed 1 of 455) Series 75 Limousine in Monday’s auction was restored around 10 years ago and has covered around 8,000km (5,000 miles) in the hands of is current owner of the last seven years.
Offered with no reserve, it is expected to make $20,000-$25,000 and will appeal to buyers looking for a special occasion limousine.
The other ‘no reserve’ Cadillac in the auction is a later 1972 De Ville Sedan that was privately imported and converted to right hand drive when new.
Powered by a 472-cid V8, the three-owner car has just emerged from 20 years in storage and its 64,977 indicated mileage is believed to be genuine.
Shelby fanciers will be drawn to the Candy Apple Red 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback that has been comprehensively rebuilt to replicate a Shelby GT500, with an S-Code Fastback believed to have been used as the donor car.
This nicely executed replica is equipped with correct Shelby badging, a fibreglass front nose, bonnet, boot lid and side scoops and rides on the model’s rare and sought-after 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Powered by a 390-cid V8 fitted with automatic transmission, the Shelby GT500 replica is expected to sell in the $55,000-$65,000 range.
All vehicles and garagenalia in Monday’s auction can be inspected over this weekend at Shannons showroom, 65 Reserve Road, St.Leonards from 9am to 4pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
