Before Chevrolet mass-produced the 1966 Chevelle SS 396, they built a small run of 1965 Malibus featuring the then-new monster motor, heavy-duty suspension and brakes, and an extra-beefy convertible frame. Just 201of these early muscle cars, known by RPO code Z16, were built.
Tom Mack’s September 22nd auction at the Cabers Arena and Events Center in Concord, NC, will offer a completely restored example, finished in Regal Red with a red interior. It features its correct 375-hp 396, 4-speed, and all Z16-specific equipment. Sold new in Dallas, it’s spent most of its life in Georgia.
